Ahead of the ASIC-monopoly issues, Litecoin has been developed using a memory-demanding hash algorithm called Scrypt. However, specific devices for Litecoin mining were introduced in 2013. While it’s still possible, and even economically viable to use graphic cards to mine Litecoin, Antminers provide a better ratio between power consumption and hash-power.

The reward for finding the next block is currently 25 LTC, which halves every 840K blocks. The next halving will happen in August 2019.
